“Stayin’ Alive” – Bee Gees

(Manter-se vivo)

Note: this song is an excellent example of how conjugations really matter in Portuguese. The “stayin’ alive” part was not easy to translate. There are parts where the song refers to “me”, “you” and “we”. That means the conjugations change in all those scenarios. Plus the fact the verb “stay” can be translated into several options depending on the meaning. This is the reason I didn’t use “ficar” (to stay). Because it’s generally used in the sense of staying somewhere or becoming (mood/emotion). Other options included: “continuar” (to continue), permanecer (to remain) and manter-se (to keep/remain/maintain) which is the one I mostly chose seeing as they are “enduring”/trying to stay alive. In some instances, I also used “continuar”.
