Olá pessoal! In this short lesson, we’ll be looking at some common vocabuçary used to describe our daily routine in Portuguese. But you know me! You don’t have to “memorize” this list. Rather enjoy it and review it in context, by making sentences relevant to you.
Daily Routine Vocabulary
Familiarize yourself with the sounds and pronunciation of the following words. Don’t try to memorize.
Morning Routine
- Acordar – To wake up
- Levantar-se – To get up
- Tomar banho – To take a shower
- Escovar/Lavar os dentes – To brush/to wash one’s teeth
- Vestir-se – To get dressed
- Pentear o cabelo – To comb one’s hair
- Tomar o pequeno-almoço – To have breakfast
- Sair de casa – To leave the house
Midday Activities
- Trabalhar – To work
- Estudar – To study
- Fazer uma pausa – To take a break
- Almoçar – To have lunch
- Conversar com colegas – To chat with colleagues
- Atender telefonemas – To answer phone calls
- Responder a e-mails – To reply to emails
Afternoon Routine
- Voltar ao trabalho – To return to work
- Fazer compras – To go shopping
- Ir ao ginásio – To go to the gym
- Ler um livro – To read a book
- Passear o cão – To walk the dog
- Brincar com as crianças/os meus filhos – To play with the children/my children
Evening Routine
- Jantar – To have dinner
- Assistir televisão – To watch TV
- Estudar ou fazer trabalhos de casa – To study or do homework
- Conversar com a família – To talk with the family
- Relaxar – To relax
- Tomar um banho relaxante – To take a relaxing bath
Night Routine
- Ler antes de dormir – To read before bed
- Escovar os dentes – To brush one’s teeth
- Preparar a roupa para o dia seguinte – To prepare clothes for the next day
- Deitar-se – To lie down
- Dormir – To sleep
There is a lot of information in this list. Rather than relying on traditional memorization methods, it’s better to understand it. The best way to do that is to learn it in context – apply it to your life. Make sentences that apply to you, such as making your daily routine.
