Portugal’s Eurovision 2023 entry is by Mimicat – Ai Coração (Oh Heart). She will represent Portugal in the 2023 Eurovision song contest in Liverpool. Lyrics are below.
Marisa Isabel Lopes Mena was born 38 years ago in Coimbra. She has been a composer and performer since she was very young. Mimicat (her alter ego) appeared in 2014, the year she released her first album, with Tell Me Why as the first single.
She made her international debut with concerts in Brazil and her references include Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles and Jill Scott.
She won the 57th edition of Festival da Canção with a free submission -meaning she wasn’t invited to participate.
During a very emotional speech, the singer began by saying: “I am an underdog. I come from a register where there is no audience. Nobody knew who I was and when I presented this song, it was for all of us. It’s for all the underdogs who have been out there singing to get a chance for ages and don’t get it. Thank you to all the people who identified with my song and who voted,” she concluded, before returning to sing ‘Ai Coração’.
She will now represent Portugal in the first semi-final of Eurovision, in Liverpool, on 9 May.
