The celebrations for Portugal Day 2024 馃嚨馃嚬 will take place this year in Figueir贸 dos Vinhos, Pedr贸g茫o Grande, Castanheira de Pera, Coimbra. In Geneva, Bern, and Zurich, Switzerland.
June 9th: A Day of Remembrance
The celebrations will begin on June 9th at the Memorial in Honour of the Victims of the 2017 Forest Fires. With the National Flag Hoisting Ceremony, followed by a Tribute to the Victims of the 2017 Forest Fires. Later in the morning, a Mass will be held in Figueir贸 dos Vinhos dedicated to the victims.
Diplomatic Greetings and Evening Entertainment
In the afternoon, in Castanheira de Pera, the Diplomatic Corps will present greetings to the President of the Republic. Following this by a reception. The first day will conclude with a concert and a multimedia show at Praia das Rocas in Castanheira de Pera.
June 10th: Military Ceremony and Literary Tribute
The programme on the 10th of June will start in Pedr贸g茫o Grande, with the Military Ceremony Commemorating the Day of Portugal, involving over 1300 soldiers from the three branches of the Armed Forces.
After the Military Ceremony, the President of the Republic, accompanied by the Prime Minister, Lu铆s Montenegro, will head to Coimbra for the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of Cam玫es. At the University of Coimbra, they will visit the Joanina Library and preside over the Ceremony Evoking the 500 Years of Cam玫es, ending the day with a musical performance at the P谩teo das Escolas.
Continuing Celebrations in 馃嚚馃嚟
The following morning, the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister will travel to Switzerland to continue the celebrations for the Day of Portugal, Cam玫es, and the Portuguese Communities of 2024.
