1st January – New Year’s Day in Portugal 🎆
This is a worldwide festive date, marking the beginning of a new year in our calendars.
25th April – Dia da Liberdade

The date that marks the end of the 48 years of Dictatorship in Portugal and the day the Carnation Revolution happened.
1st May – Dia do Trabalhador (Worker’s Day)
Workers’ Day is celebrated every year on the 1st of May. It’s a public holiday in Portugal and in several European countries. Some of the main traditions of this day are the Maios and Snail eating! 🐌
10th June – Dia de Portugal (Portugal Day)
The date celebrates Portugal, Luís de Camões, the Portuguese language and all the Portuguese-speaking countries and communities.
Santos Populares (Popular Saints)
During June there are three Popular Saints that are celebrated in Portugal, but each region /town only has one bank holiday for one of the Saint Days. This means it can be a holiday in one town not in another. The dates are the 13th of June (Saint Anothny’s Day), the 24th of June (Saint John’s Day and the 29th of June (Saint Peter’s Day).
15th August – Assunção de Nossa Senhora
This is a Catholic holiday celebrating the time when the Virgin Mary died, and how she was transported body and soul to heaven to share in the glory of her son, Jesus Christ.
5th October – Implantação da República 🇵🇹
On this day, Portugal ceased to be a Monarchy and became a Republic.
1st November – Dia de Todos os Santos
All Saints Day and also the day to remember the destruction of Lisbon and many seaside places in Portugal during the terrible 1755 Earthkaque and Tsunami. 🌊
1st December – Restauração da Independência (Indepence Day in Portugal) 👑
The Day Portugal drove out the Spanish and regained its independence after 60 years of Spanish rule.
8th December – Dia da Imaculada Conceição
This day invokes the life and virtue of the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, conceived without stain, that is, without the mark of original sin, which received the title of Catholic dogma on 8 December 1854.
25th December – Dia de Natal (Christmas Day)🎄
